How to Layer For Fall

October 10, 2019

If you live in the South you know that Fall doesn’t come until late October/early November. Truly a sad day for us who LIVE for fall. I don’t care how warm it is outside, I am burning my Fall candles and drinking my PSL come September. Anyone else with me?

Today I will be breaking down ways to transition your fall wardrobe, no matter the temperature, and sharing some of my favorite fall layers with you! I will be switching up the layers on the same top and jeans so you can see just how easy it is to do to your own wardrobe!

Option 1: Cardigan

We are slowly easing into fall. Maybe its still 90 degrees out but your office is chilly. This is the description of my current state right now, always SO cold at work. Lightweight cardigans are the perfect transitional piece for you Texas gals. Easy to wear into chillier fall temperatures by throwing on a scarf or layering with a leather or suede jacket (I wouldn’t do that here since this is a longer sweater, but you could if it was the same length as your jacket). You cannot go wrong with cream/tan, black, or olive sweaters come fall. These pieces will be staples in your wardrobes for years to come and can coordinate with any outfit your heart desires! This sweater from Old Navy I am sporting is my all time favorite and comes in 4 other staple colors! Picking up 2 more ASAP. To round out the look I am still wearing my sandals to coincide with the warmer temps but can easily be switched to a bootie if it is needed.

Option 2: Jean Jacket

So now we are feeling more fall like! A sweater isn’t cutting it anymore so we opt for a lighter jean jacket and booties. Perfect look for date night at the pumpkin patch. You can also amp up the warmth with a leather or suede jacket if needed! I love jean jackets because they are truly effortless and never go out of style! I paired this look with a wide brimmed hat as well to add more depth to the look, but also doubles for actually keeping your head warm. Jean, suede, and leather jackets are my favorite pieces for fall to layer with!

Option 3: Coat

So the temps have finally dropped down into colder weather. It is time to throw on a coat! Now this coat can probably be laughed at in other parts of the country, but for Texas it is perfect for late fall/early winter! I love the tan color and how it can pair with so many looks. The draping on this Chic Wish coat is also effortless and will not go out of style for years to come. Very important that when you are purchasing a good coat, you stick to a neutral at first to cover your bases. You don’t want to splurge on a red coat and then realize that it doesn’t match half of your wardrobe.

I hope this has helped show how easy it is to switch your layers up through the temperature drops! Always remember scarves are also your best friend as they can help provide warmth and be a fun pop of color. What is your favorite way to layer for fall?
