Self Love and Self Care are very important in the current day and age. We can be bogged down by so many things in life, what we see on our TV’s, keeping our nose in our phones trying to stay in the loop on social media, the list goes on and on. I’m 100% guilty of all of these things and by no means am I a master at beating out these outside distractions when thinking about my self care. This is something that I am really working on now and am working on everyday. It’s not easy sometimes to put down my phone, especially with launching a new blog. It isn’t easy to force myself to go to the gym after a long exhausting day at work even when I know its good for my body and my sanity. With the help of my boyfriend Connor pushing me to conquer complacency, I have been able to enjoy the things I love to do for myself on the daily lately! You have to remember to put yourself first sometimes, because you deserve that moment daily to recharge and take on a new day.
In no particular order… here are some of my favorite ways to rest and recharge everyday, even if its only for a few minutes daily.
- Exploring: This can be interpreted into many different things. For me I enjoy trying new restaurants, new shops, new activities. I usually have the time to do this on the weekend so I can take more time to enjoy a new find. It can be robotic going to the same places every single time you have a free moment to enjoy yourself. It is fun and exciting when you find a new coffee shop, or small boutique to enjoy and bring a smile to your face. Finding these hole in the wall gems can also be a great way to meet truly inspiring shop owners. I stumbled into the cutest new airstream plant shop, Grow, In Fort Worth. The vibes were intoxicating and made you just want to stay and enjoy. We struck up a conversation with the owner and got to hear the story behind opening the new shop only a month ago. So get out and find something inspiring!
- Exercise: Growing up I was always was active in many sports. This truly shaped me and gave me an outlet to be active and express my emotions. Some people don’t see sports as being expressive like dance, art, etc. but it really is a way to release so many feelings. As we all know you get older and more responsibility gets put on you where you don’t have as much time to exercise, when maybe you would rather be sleeping after a long day at work. This has been my biggest downfall motivating myself to just go straight to the gym after work. The whole key is not sitting down and immediately changing your clothes and getting to the gym. I feel so much better after a kick butt workout, if I am not working out I can feel drained and lethargic. I am challenging myself this month through November, and have joined a adult soccer league. Will I be so out of shape? 1000% percent yes, but I know I need to do this to push myself and put myself back to somewhere that makes me the happiest. Top | Shorts | Bag | Necklace | Bracelet
- Fashion: This can differ from person to person, but fashion is my passion (shoutout to Bratz dolls slogan). Find something that you love to research, read about, something that allows you to disconnect and have time to yourself. I love reading fashion magazines, my favorite being Instyle. I could spend hours looking at trends, mood boards, color stories. When I was little I even cut out my favorite items from a magazine and would create my own mood boards. Find a hobby that allows you to disconnect and make it your own. For me fashion is ever changing and I love being able to create new looks depending on the season and my mood. The creation of From Red to Toe was to allow myself to have an outlet to share with the world. I love giving fashion advice and have always loved styling outfits and posting them on social media, so why not incorporate that into a space for me to express myself!
- Sleep: Okay so this one is pretty self explanatory. Not to sound like a Mom, but I notice a huge difference in myself when I am running on low fumes. Not only in my energy levels and work ethic but also in physical appearance. My skin becomes lifeless and not vibrant (also stemming from low water levels) and my mood is shot. I have been made fun of for years that I can still till this day sleep until noon if I really wanted to. No matter me waking up on the daily at 7 in the week, I know my body needs sleep and if I can sleep until noon on a Saturday I am taking full advantage.
- Journal: One of my favorite things to do, and one thing I don’t get to do so often is journal. Yeah yeah one of those Dear Diary situations. I love being able to release all my feelings onto a page. More often than not now days I journal when something is weighing on my heart or a major life change took place. I used to journal everything in college which has lead to some hilarious entires I can go back and laugh at for years to come. For years when friends have come to ask for advice I always tell them to journal their feelings. Sometimes things can become more clear when you are writing everything you feel down. It gives you the chance to also re read your emotions and thoughts and is truly inspiring sometimes to look back on something a younger you might have said. It always allows me to see how I have grown and learned from my mistakes or triumphs through the years.
- Read: Since I was little I always loved to read, well maybe not all the class assigned books in High School buy you catch my drift. I could curl up and read for hours if life allowed that. There is something about holding a paper back book and diving into a story that I find so relaxing. I have never been a big movie person but have always connected to characters and stories through print. I love to read books that are insightful as well as just just fun easy reads. I try to get to read at least a chapter a day in my book and have been putting my phone aside right before I go to bed and instead picking my book up!
- Breathe: Finally as Faith Hill says- Just Breathe. I am the worst at this and let myself get worked up from work, life, truly anything. You have to find what makes you tick and calm yourself down and just breathe! Its pretty funny for myself to give that advice because I am probably the most high strung perfectionist in the world but it is all about trying!
Making the time for yourself can be a feat itself. Just remember that there is truly no formula to finding the right balance in your life. So sit back, relax, and find those things that you love to allow you to unplug and recharge from this crazy life we live!
