Sometimes I catch myself not counting my blessings everyday. With the busy lives we all lead now days, and the noise of TV, social media, politics, it can be an afterthought to be thankful for what you have in your life everyday. I wish I could say I do this more than I do, but I love journaling when pivotal moments in my life, or my loved ones lives occur. Back in college I did this almost everyday, and it really centers you when writing a small frustration to realize in the scheme of things you live a blessed life. For those who know me, it can be tough for me sometimes to keep trucking along when something derails, what can I say I’m a planner. My boyfriend Connor this past year, has really pushed me to breathe and not jump into a rage of frustration when life doesn’t go the way you had planned. When I just want to dump all my thoughts onto paper and detox I lean on my journal. Journaling gives you this record in time where you can look back and see the joy, pain, excitement in your life.

My Dad has kept a calendar since I can remember and can tell you the date I started college, the score to my basketball game, and so much more. These moments in time are hard to capture and remember, and be thankful for. Call me old-fashioned, but that’s why I love writing these things down. Keeping these memories on a phone doesn’t mean it’s there forever. I have always been someone who needs tangible moments, whether it’s a book, a planner, a journal, I want it to live on forever.
This next year I am challenging myself to take more time out of my day to journal, and be thankful for the life I lead with the amazing friends and family I have. Don’t let your day-to-day life pull you away from your support system and grounding yourself in the moments that make your life amazing. How do you count your blessings? I would love to hear!
