I have been a bookworm ever since I was a little kid. Something about picking up a book and transporting into a whole other scenario was always such an escape for me. I have fallen out of this habit with reading daily lately, but with colder cozier weather ahead of us its the perfect time to jump back in! I am sharing my top 5 cozy reads today. These books range from suspenseful, light hearted and informative. I tried to pick a wide variety of genres that could meet the interests of many people. Grab your coziest blanket and your choice beverage and get ready to read!
- Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella: Being a Merchandising major and loving all things fashion, I love reading books on fashion or the retail industry. This book is a fun fusion between Fashion and Romance. Confessions of a Shopaholic is not a new series by any means, and many people know it from the movie several years back. I realized one day that I had actually never read the series and decided to pick it up. It is such an easy read that doesn’t require much investment or thought. There are 16 books in the series total and I still have 4 left to read. The book follows Rebecca Bloomwood and her crazed shopping addiction all while watching her life unfold from careers to family.
- Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan: I am a huge proponent of reading a book before a movie is released based on it. That is exactly why I read this book before the movie was released this past summer. I will say that for the most part I was pleased by the accuracy of the movie, but of course no movie will ever hold the details that a book can. Reading a book prior allows you to paint your own picture and truly become invested in the characters as you imagine them. This book is a fun new mix on romance and the pressures of family within a relationship. Rachel Chu and Nick Young are a young couple living in New York City. Nick takes Rachel back to his home country of Singapore for a family friends wedding and to meet his family. Little does Rachel know until she arrives that Nick’s family is one of the wealthiest families in Singapore. The book takes you through the twists and turns of families acceptance and the lavish living in Singapore. There are 3 books in this series and I am looking forward to picking up the next 2!
- The French Beauty Solution by Mathilde Thomas: This is a different kind of read as the co founder of skincare brand Caudalie gives you insight to the brand and beauty secrets to more radiant and glowing skin. I recently have been on a clean beauty kick as my sensitive skin can not take harsh fragrances and ingredients in some skincare. If you are interested on how to care for your skin with the right products, and understand what is harmful to the youth of your skin pick this book up! I also have picked up a lot of the Caudalie products in Sephora and it was very interesting to hear how the brand started and evolved over the years.
- The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine: Suspense is the word that best describes this book. I read this over the summer and thought it would take me awhile to get through since it was a larger page count. Boy was I wrong. Once you get a few chapters in you can not put down the book. Amber Patterson is a quiet woman with a plain and boring life. She befriends Daphne Parrish, wife of Jackson Parrish, successful business man. The Parrish’s live a picture perfect life on the outside looking in. That is until Amber inserts herself into the families lives, going on trips and coming to family dinners. The twists and turns this book takes is unexpected and thrilling. Definitely a page turner!
- If Looks Could Kill by Kate White: I found come to find that I love all of Kate Whites books. I have been a mystery reader since I read Nancy Drew at a young age. If Looks Could Kill is the first book to the Bailey Weggins mystery series. Bailey works for a beauty magazine in New York as a crime writer. She finds herself being thrown into investigating a lot of her stories herself. Bailey’s boss experiences a murder in her home and Bailey is left to uncover the pieces. Not only does this series incorporate mystery, but also Bailey’s romantic life and the trials of working for a magazine in New York.
Take some time for yourself this holiday season and cozy up with your favorite book! Is your favorite on my top 5? If not let me know your favorite read!
