Living Room Details

June 6, 2022

Finally, a long overdue living room “reveal”. Im just going to pretend this is part of an Architectural Digest spread, don’t mind me. I won’t lie that one of my favorite things about moving into my own place was reinventing my living space. I was very extra and created mood boards months in advance looking at the tones, colors, textures I wanted in this space. I knew I wanted it to be more warm toned and earthy, and I think I can say I achieved that. The main colors being the brown wood, black metals and pulling in olive greens and blues.

The first area I knew would anchor the space was having a wallpaper accent wall. I actually started wanting this wall in the same print but in blue but it was too loud and clashed with the rug so I opted for it in a neutral. I love how my books pop off the wall and still offer a lot of color to the space. I keep the accent decor in the rattan texture, gold or olive tones to keep the vibe consistent. This rug and bookcase were both in my old apartment and were integral to the new design.

The second most important area, the sitting area. You will laugh, but this is the same couch from my old apartment, except its not the same one since my roommate bought it. I just bought the same exact one I loved it too much….whoops. I was so happy to bring back my vintage suitcases I used in my bedroom in college as a side table! I haven’t had space to use them since then and they bring me so much joy and I love their vintage and warm tones. Also love a piece that has a story to tell. Next I knew I wanted a gallery wall and I decided to center it around my roots in Texas. I also incorporated in some colors and textures to bring the wall to life. You will see cats in cowboy hats, a Whataburger sign, and my favorite, a ZZ top album cover my Dad gave to me. The wall has so much personality but isn’t too loud with the room.

To separate the living room area and my desk space, I placed my Ikea bookcase which was actually in my last apartment, but got a paint job to take it from white to black. If you know me you know I love little decor pieces. This bookcase has some of my favorite decor pieces along with part of my Instyle collection (They just cancelled the print subscription so these mean even more to me now). Its such a cheap way to showcase some of your favorite pieces and add personality to the room!

Lastly, my “office space”. I knew I HAD to have my desk out of my room when I moved to my own place. Working from home during the pandemic doing everything in my room was torture. I of course now go into the office, but I still love having my desk space out of my room! I did get a few months of remote work use out of the space. This area is a lot like my last desk area besides all my makeup moving into my bathroom and I loved the sneaky way to store my printer in this wicker basket so it wasn’t an eyesore.

Well MTV, thats my crib! Let me know if there are any other decor areas and tips and tricks you would love for me to cover!
