This year I started with a goal of reading at least 1 book a month. With quarantine I have smashed that goal and have been a reading machine (I mean what else is there to do?). I plan to do quarterly book recaps that provide a more in depth review than my quick Instagram story updates.
Passion on Park Avenue by Lauren Layne
Love on Lexington Avenue by Lauren Layne
Marriage on Madison Avenue by Lauren Layne
This series is probably one of my new favorites of all time. It was a very easy and pleasant read. The series follows 3 woman who fall into a friendship under unfortunate circumstances. One is the Mistress, one is the girlfriend and the other is the wife of a New York man who passed away. They all meet in Central Park on the day of his funeral by chance and make a pact to protect each other from these type of men in the future. Each book follows along to the girls love lives and how they navigate dating in New York. Overall 5 out of 5 stars!
Shopaholic and Baby by Sophie Kinsella
Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Shopaholic to the Stars by Sophie Kinsella
Shopaholic to the Rescue by Sophie Kinsella
I have been wrapping up the Shopaholic series during quarantine. The series follows Rebecca Brandon-Bloomwood and her life from single, married, to mother. I personally love the book because Becky starts her career in finance but soon finds out she cant keep that up being a Shopaholic and all. She pivots her career into fashion and holds several jobs through her and husband Lukes moves through England, New York and LA. The series is a sweet and light read that has many laughs and life lessons along the way. We can definitely all relate to this plot in some way. I do think the series was carried on for a little to long and for that I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I am finishing up the last book in the series that just came out in December!
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
You probably have heard of his book by now since it was turned into a Hulu series staring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. But let me tell you! I personally liked the book more than the show because them show changed a lot of details and added some things to the plot. I finished this book within days, it really is a page turner. Family drama, struggles, secrets, and suspense revolve around this town. I highly recommend!
Next Level Basic by Stassi Schroeder
I would only suggest reading this book if you watch Vanderpump Rules. Stassi Schroeder is a main character (and my personal favorite) on the hit Bravo show. The book goes into her life from relationships to OOTD but it does encompass a lot of inside jokes and things you wouldn’t understand if you didn’t watch the show. I am not a huge reader of autobiographies so it was a little hard for me to get into.
The Husbands Secret by Liane Moriarty
This by far is one of my favorite reads of this year. The twists and turns of this book made me unable to put it down. I love how the author also makes short chapters, because for me that makes me want to keep reading since each chapter follows a different character and leaves you on the edge of your seat. The book follows 3 families and their secrets, fears and past lives. I will stop there because it is SO GOOD and I don’t want to give anything away!
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
This is one of my other favorites this quarantine. To be honest I cant put this plot into words without giving anything away. Let me just say that it’s shocking, interesting, and makes you second guess everything you think could happen. I know thats not the best description LOL but trust me if you like suspense and mystery you will love this book.
ALL TIME FAVORITES
Now when it comes to some all time favorite recommendations, two of my three will have to be the classics To Kill a Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby. These two books were both required books I had to read in high school and for once I am thankful for that assigned reading (No sparknotes required). I feel that everyone should read these two classics in their lifetime as they are parts of history. Lastly Then She was Gone is an amazing suspense mystery that keeps you on your toes and turning the page.
Have you read any of these or have new suggestions for me?! I am always looking to add new titles to my to read list.
