Honesty Hour, I am the QUEEN of Organization. In my work & personal life. But… there are those mundane tasks we all face on a daily basis that get shoved to the bottom of our to do lists. I have had a hard time staying on top of these not so exciting tasks this year. One of my goals this year was to really push myself to just do it. Don’t get in my head or say, nah I’ll do that tomorrow, but instead face these tasks head on (AKA working out consistently LOL). I wanted to share some of the things that helps me stay organized and on top of my tasks. Even if you might be putting off said task, there is a way to organize the action plan to get the job done.
- To Do Lists: My number one suggestion hands down! To Do lists help for me be able to visually see the tasks at hand. For some this can be overwhelming to see, which in reality is probably why you feel behind and unorganized! You can also segment your to do lists by errands, computer work, etc. so you can better see the tasks you have and the different time or mind sets you might need to have. I will break my list in half for personal to do, and for blog to do since they are two different mind frames!
- Don’t let the little things pile up: I look at my to do lists as an ongoing challenge. If I notice something is getting unorganized or piling up, I make note on my to do list so its top of mind. I also do this for things I know are coming up in the near future so I can get ahead of them. An example of the sneak attack tasks could be clean out under bed, or wash makeup brushes. Something you see down the line could be file taxes or get oil changed. That way these items are top of mind and you don’t forget!
- Write all your thoughts down: This goes hand and hand with don’t let things pile up. I write down every little thing I know I need to be working on to help clear my mind. I personally am someone who can not keep a mental list. At work, in my personal and blogging life I am always making new lists of even the smallest things to keep me on track. Crossing out that task is so rewarding and encourages me to keep going!
- Prioritize your list: With writing everything down and creating a brain dump could potentially become overwhelming. When I have finalized my list, I look at what I need to accomplish and start breaking them down day by day on what goals are attainable to complete. Setting this expectation in your mind allows you to be able finish tasks and not look at the long list and be lost where to start. I will plan these goals out in my planner, which takes us to the last tip!
- Get a Planner: To do lists and planners make the world go round! Now that you have made your to do lists you can match up your event dates you can really plan out when to tackle what you need to get done! My planner has a week view on the left and on the right has a full page of lined paper to take notes which I love! I can write my to do lists here, as well as plan out photoshoot ideas, etc. Many people feel like once you adult you might not need a planner to keep track of things since you do not have school work any longer. I feel the complete opposite. I don’t have a packed calendar anymore but now I can be very thoughtful and intentional on how I spend my days so I don’t get overwhelmed or miss anything important!
Routine, Routine, Routine is the key to success. I have implemented some of these tips back to when I was in Middle School. If you really want to make a change and impact in your life you have to have the heart and effort to really make a difference. It is all worth while in the end!
