Bathroom Organization

February 14, 2019

I am so excited to share my new organization series! I wont lie, this might have been spurred by the Marie Kondo craze. I have been a clean and organized person my whole life. It drives me insane to have things out of place. I wanted to really clean out all of my belongings and start fresh for the new year! I have always struggled with holding onto things just because it was in good condition, or maybe I would use it one day. I am really bad at attaching memories with items which is a big reason on why I hold onto some items. Marie Kondos Netflix show really resonated with me on how to detach memories from items and really think about the use you have for something. This wasn’t as big of an issue in the bathroom as it was in my closet. My bathroom really just needed some better organization! I decided to invest in my organization pieces so that it could last me years. Mostly all of my pieces I am showcasing below are from Container Store. I could spend hours in that store!

I tacked first my countertop. I really needed a better place to hold all my skincare. At my previous apartment I had two counter tops. One on the left of my bathroom and one on the right. I know its a little extra for just one person. When I moved to this apartment, I lost some of that counterspace. I found these two acrylic drawers at the Container Store that were a perfect fit for all my products! In the first drawer I keep my everyday and night products and on the bottom I kept things like masks, spot treatments etc. that I do not reach for everyday. On the sides of these drawers I keep my taller skincare items that do not fit inside the drawers, and my face wash and deodorant since I reach for these frequently.  I find this works best for me and keeps me from over purchasing skincare since I do not have a ton of space for it! For storing my cotton balls and q tips I like to save my money here and repurpose my gorgeous Anthropologie candles after I use them up! Adds a fun element to your countertop and saves you money!

Moving onto the not as glamorous, under the sink storage. This is where you can really find your spaces getting messy since the door can be closed and not seen! I found these awesome acrylic stacking cubes for my hair appliances! On the top I keep my straighteners and blow dryer since I reach for these more often. In the bottom cube I keep my millions of curling irons that I don’t know how to use LOL, one day I will its a 2019 goal! In front of my appliances I have repurposed another candle to hold all of my brushes! I keep the two that I use most often in one of my pull out drawers for easy access. My favorite piece I picked up from Container Store has to be my lazy Susan! Implementing this item allows me to be able to segment my products and rotate it to have full view of everything! I keep backup items, sun care, and other misc. items in this lazy Susan. Really this item is supposed to be used in the kitchen, but that’s one thing I love with organizing is you can really find unique pieces to fit your needs that you might have never thought would work! The last piece in this cabinet is an acrylic bin that holds all my freebies for my friends and family. I work in the beauty industry and also am constantly trying products that sometimes don’t workout for me. I keep this bin in my bathroom so my friends and family can come over and shop for anything that they want!

In my next cabinet I found the best storage solution for my feminine care products! This tiered storage allows space in my cabinet and keeps everything organized without stacking it on top of each other. Besides the lazy Susan this was another one of my favorite finds! Next to this I picked up two basic white storage containers. A larger one to hold my extra q tips, cotton balls, cotton pads and trashbags! In front of that I have all my small travel items together next to my travel bags so they are easy to find and accessible for trips. The last thing in this cabinet is my many travel/makeup bags. This is me pairing them down if you can believe it, but in reality I actually do use all of these! I keep these upright by using some very inexpensive acrylic bookends from Amazon!

The last area to tackle was my center pull out drawers. The top drawer especially needed some help! The top drawer is where I keep all of my daily items I need to get to. The acrylic drawer organizers helped separate all of these items and keep them in order! I have an area for my daily medicine, glasses cleaner, chapstick, visine, really anything I could need to access easily. Behind that I store all of my headbands. Next to that I have all of my hair ties, clips, and bobby pins separated. And to the right, loose in the drawer due to the larger size is my makeup wipes, brush, and contacts! Drawer two does not have any specific organization items. This drawer holds all of my hair care products so I have them lined up based on the type of product. Hairspray, Dry Shampoo, Heat Protectant and Oils/Texturizers. The item separating the taller laid down cans and the other products is just a box from my last fragrance purchase! I haven’t been able to find an acrylic divider that fits these dimensions yet. The final drawer holds all my medicines, bandaids, lint rollers etc. I keep all my medicines in this small crate with a lid that way they are not flying all over my drawer! In the back I have a small bin to contain all of my other first aid/care necessities.

I am so excited to continue to share how I have organized the spaces in my life! If I can offer any advice it is to take your time and don’t try to conquer it all at once. What rooms do you need to work on organizing in your home?
