If you have read The Red to Toe Story blog post, you know my Christmas Eve tradition since I was little girl was to wear red. Every year I search high and low for a new red piece to wear and add to my collection. This piece is usually a red dress, but this year I decided to switch it up and have some fun with a red lace pant. This is definitely not my usual comfort zone to wear pants outside of the workplace, but I couldn’t resist the challenge to try something new and different this year!
To be quite honest, I usually find styling pants outside of workwear to be quite challenging. I either feel frumpy or to 9-5 work vibes to wear pants on a normal basis. These fun lace pants although might be changing my mind. My 3 tips for finding the perfect pant to carry onto happy hour or your holiday events are:
- Feel comfortable: Elastic waistband is KEY. This allows comfort while sitting down or getting ready for a big meal. This isn’t always a must, but when exploring the waters with how to style pants, it provides comfort and mobility.
- On point tailoring: You want your legs to feel elongated and the style to flatter your backside and hips. I luckily am a pretty average height so I don’t have to worry about my pants getting tailored, or finding tall sizing. I will say that getting your items tailored is well worth the investment to feel confident and own a lasting piece you can wear for years.
- Figure out how you like to wear your tops with pants: I know this might be an odd tip to some, but I usually always either have my shirt half tucked or tucked into my pants. This helps make me feel more put together. Everyone’s body type and preference is different. I played with this for years looking in a full length mirror at all the different ways to pair a look. I will also say that sometimes it looks better to leave it untucked! It’s all about trial and error. This can be frustrating at times, this is why your full length mirror and your BFF are essential in times of doubt.
To round out this fun ensemble I decided to try a monochromatic look and add a red coat. You could easily switch this out for a black coat if you didn’t want to be as bold. The holidays are the perfect time to switch up your ensembles and have some fun!
