If you haven’t checked out my Instagram this week then you probably aren’t aware of what I am celebrating this whole week. So let me catch you up… it’s RED WEEK! I am turning 26 this Saturday and to celebrate I wanted to make a week all about the color I love most. In addition, I am breaking down how to find your power color all week with some really fun shots so make sure you head there next to check it out!
First things first. How many of you have found your power color yet? It’s the color that without fail makes you feel confident, beautiful and ready to kick some major butt. Obviously I hope you all can tell by now that my color is red. For some this realization might be easy. For others you might need to put more effort into the decision. So let’s break down how you too can find your power color!
ANALYZE: If you are completely lost I want you to go into your closet and take stock in the color you have the most pieces in. Yes black and white count as a color! Some people do not like bright colors and that is totally okay! Then next start to think back to any big event in your life. Prom dress, sorority formals, date nights, even brunch with the girls. What color did you wear? These are all moments when you wanted to look and feel your best, because honestly a photo op was probably involved. You now have your data to analyze (turns fashion topic into corporate America project). Is the answer crystal clear?! Some of you are nodding yes and too that I say mission accomplished. Other’s are like no you lost me even more. So let’s move onto step 2.
EXPERIMENT: Okay so the answer wasn’t in you crystal ball yet on what your power color is. So let’s get to experimenting! You can do this one of two ways. 1) You already have a good amount of colors in your closet that you can try on and model in the mirror to see how you feel at home 2) You head into your favorite retailer where you know the clothes are up your ally and start the try on in the dressing room. Whatever location you land on, take pictures in the mirror, see how you feel when you move in the color, this sounds dramatic but I am dead serious! It is all about the mood you are in when you slip on that color. Use these photos when you are done to go back and look over your options as well as get friends and family feedback!
BE COMFORTABLE: This is probably the number one rule. Do not be something that you are not. Do not feel pressured to wear a bright color if that just isn’t in your jam. You can always throw in other colors to experiment with in your wardrobe but you want your power color to be the go to color you can count on! Clothes are an extension of your personality so remember that! The color you land on is when you feel most confident, alive and happy. You should see a piece of clothing in this color in stores and make a bee line for it. It speaks to you and who you are!
INCORPORATE: Now you have the color. Start having fun with it! Incorporate it into your accessories. Jewelry, makeup, purses the sky is the limit! If you have been following me for awhile I am sure you have noticed my nod to red in a large majority of my posts. By no means am I saying your whole wardrobe has to be your power color. But start to curate these pieces so you can add them into your wardrobe and rock them when you need a little pick me up! My favorite thing to do is throw on a red lip when I am wearing a black dress or a red shoe when I am staying neutral. This still lets my personality shine through and keeps me feeling my best!
SO WHAT IS YOUR POWER COLOR?! If you are now taking in all of these tips and are off on your power color mission, please report back and let me know how it goes! I am always here for any questions. Think of me as your Power Color Consultant. Good luck!
