Texas Fall Transition

October 10, 2018

October 1st hits and I am dying to throw on a chunky sweater, booties and jeans. Well actually more like end of September when the pumpkin spice latte drops at Starbucks. If you are from the South you know that “fall” isn’t really a thing until maybe mid October if we are lucky! It’s shocking that I still love, and want to live in Texas for this reason since I live for this time of year, and never really get to go all out for fall fashion due to Texas temps.

Jeans | Wedges | Hoops

One thing I have found in my 25 years of living in this state, is how to transition a summer wardrobe into fall, and still get those fall feels (even if you are drinking a hot pumpkin spice latte in 90 degree weather). First things first, your color palette can jump start you into fall. Even though its piping hot out you can take out your bright summer color palette and begin to mix in your warm tones and summer neutrals. Fake it till you make it am I right? My favorite transition colors are olive greens, browns and deep maroon wine colors. These colors get me into my fall feels even if I am pairing them with shorts. Secondly, I recommend mixing summer pieces with fall. If you chose a jean bottom, keep a tank, short sleeve or off the shoulder top as your top of choice. If you go with a long sleeve shirt, pair them with shorts or a mini skirt! This way you won’t be melting but you also won’t look like you are sitting poolside in July. Remember comfortability is key. If the weather is still to toasty for booties I love a chunky wedge or loafer in a fall color or print, snakeskin is a go to. I have been loving my Steve Madden snakeskin loafers I picked up during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, they can transition to any season!

These distressed olive Free People jeans are one of my favorite transition pieces. They are so comfortable and breathable so they can take on any warmer Texas weather! I paired the olive jeans with an off the shoulder white top to not get to toasty and mixed in earth tone accessories to elevate the look to a fall feeling. I always push my summer clothes to the back of my closet to get my mind off of bright summer looks, even if the weather still feels like pool season. The final tip that I love to incorporate is a darker lip. This is a no fuss way to scream fall with any neutral look. If you don’t feel comfortable with bolder lips, add in some olive or deep chocolate eyeshadows to your eye makeup.

Warmer fall weather may be the only downside to the Lone star state. I send a prayer to all of you to make it through the treacherous hot fall weather and onto layers and scarves later this month (fingers crossed)! Can’t wait!
