Well Read: 2021 Book Recap

February 22, 2022

Another year of amazing reads is in the books! This year I read 24 books in total! Proud of that total but also sad because it is the same total as 2020. But if anything I am consistent! At the same time I am impressed I was able to keep the same pace since I had so much downtime in 2020 with COVID and being furloughed a few months. For 2022 I set my goal at 25 books. If I hit this goal, I’ll beat 2020 and 2021, but it’s also not too daunting of a goal to accomplish. To start the year I also downloaded the Good Reads app which I have been loving! In the app you can set your year book challenge, rate books you have read, create a list of books you want to read all while following your friends and reading their reviews! Social media for books.

To wrap up the 2021 year, I am going to recap the last quarter of books I read from October-December. But first, I want to award Gold, Silver & Bronze medals to my top books of the year! In bronze is the Perfect Guests by Emma Rous. Coming in second with Silver is Verity by Colleen Hoover and the champion with the Gold medal is….. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid! If you want to get my thoughts and recaps of the plots, check out my past quarterly Well Read book recaps on the blog!

Now to wrap up the last few months of 2021 reads!

The Perfect Guests by Emma Rous: The plot of this book is set at Raven Hall, a historical home with many secrets. We follow present day with Sadie who is hired to be part of a murder mystery party & Beth, who lived at the house in the 80’s after she became orphaned and her aunt did not want to care for her. We see how these two girls lives converge and how the connections to this house are ominous. You will not want to put this book down and is such an easy read!

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager: Jules Larsen has taken on an apartment sitting job since ends are tight. There are some wild rules though, no visitors and no nights not spent in the apartment. She begins to meet the tenets in the Bartholomew, one of the most prestige buildings in New York, all to realize things are not what it seems. Jules begins to look for the truth and finds herself in some sticky situations. This was one of my favorite books of the year and will definitely be reading more Riley Sager books!

Get The F**k Out of The Sun by Lauryn Evarts Bosstick: This books is a MUST for the skincare junkie. And not only that but its adorable on your coffee table. You have probably heard of Lauryn Bostick, an influencer who started her blog the Skinny Confidential many years ago. She also has a podcast with her husband Michael, who owns Dear Media the podcast company. Lauryn always has amazing skincare tips and in this book she covers her tips and tricks but also interviews skincare professionals and celebrity personalities. Highly recommend!

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll: I FINALLY picked this book up! It was on my list for a good while. What pushed me to read it was the book is now becoming a movie and is currently in production! I always like reading the book first and am so excited for the movie, Mila Kunis is the lead! Ani has a past she has ran from for years. She has reinvented herself in New York City, going by a shortened name, she’s a fancy writer for a top woman’s magazine, and her prize of a fiancé. She fights her past secret and what she should do to avoid her “perfect” life imploding.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: Theo, a criminal psychotherapist, has waited years to try to treat Alicia Berenson. Alicia has not spoken since her husband was brutally murdered in their home, presumably by her. Theo works tirelessly to pull Alicia out of her silence, and to learn the truth. This was a little bit of a different read for me but I liked it! I am interested to read more of his books and have heard that the Maidens is great! It is definitely on my to read list.

The Kitchen Front by Jennifer Ryan: Historical Fiction is not usually my cup of tea, but I found this plot when reading the summary to be interesting. We follow the lives of 4 very different women as they compete to win the Kitchen Fronts contest and become the first female host on the radio show. We hear their life stories and heartache, all while they do what they love. Cook.

The New Girl by Harriet Walker: This book was okay for me. I liked the back half of the book but the beginning just could not hook me. Margot Jones is the fashion editor at a top magazine expecting her first child. Margot suggested a past work acquaintance Maggie to take her role until she came back. But while Margot is out, she becomes insecure with how well Maggie is doing, She is being trolled on twitter by an unknown person, and she looses her longest friendship. Will she be able to keep ahold of her life or will it fall apart?

The Third Wife by Lisa Jewell: It’s no shock that I loved this book, Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite authors! Adrian is married to his third wife when all of a sudden she commits suicide. Shocked by her death, Adrian begins to finally investigate the reason why several years later. Many family secrets from his 5 kids and 2 ex wives come out, not everyone is as they may seem.

What book could you not put down in 2021?! I’ll add it to my Good Reads list:) And make sure you add me as a friend so we can grow our bookshelves with amazing reads!
