I am so excited to kick off my new Get to Know blogger series with my dear friend Lauryn of Lauryn Lately! I wanted to start this series to share amazing content creators/bloggers that you might not follow and need to check out! The content creators/bloggers I will be spotlighting each month, are people who inspire me on a creative & professional level as well as people I connect with through a screen daily! I hope you enjoy this new series and let me know if there is anyone you want to see featured!
So Lauryn and I have actually known each other since we were in pre school (crazy right?!). She was my best friend and first childhood friend growing up! Her family sadly moved away after we graduated pre school but we have kept up with each other through the years, our parents when we were younger, and then through social media as we got older! It was so exciting when she started her blog AND when she moved back to Dallas and we were able to reconnect! Such a cool friendship story we have and I cannot wait for those who do not know her to get to know her through these 30 questions! Check out Lauryn’s Instagram Lauryn Lately & her blog Lauryn Lately. Now let’s jump into the interview and check out these adorable pics of us as little kiddos!;)
Q: Tell us about your blog & what your blog focuses on? A: Lauryn Lately is a fashion and lifestyle blog that aims to inspire others through styling tips, lifestyle advice, and little snippets of my everyday life. Even though my blog focuses on fashion, it is my goal for it to be so much more than that. I want my blog to be a platform of positivity but also a mixture of real life including the good, the bad, and the ugly! Q: Is blogging your profession or just a hobby? A: I currently work a full time job as an accountant in the electrical industry. I blog on the side because it’s my true passion and I have so much fun with it. Q: What inspired you to start your blog? A: I think it’s important for everyone to have a creative outlet. A place where you can use your imagination and truly express yourself outside of your day-to-day life. I started Lauryn Lately back at the beginning of 2018 after graduating from grad school with my MBA. I think I realized I was headed into a not-so-creative profession and finally decided to take my love for fashion & styling to the ‘gram! Q: How do you manage time to run your blog effectively? A: It might sound cliche but organization is truly key. I utilize a few tools to help keep me organized like my daily planner, my iPhone calendar/ reminders, apps, etc. I schedule all content shoots, captions, try-ons, etc. way beforehand so that I am able to post consistently during the week without thinking TOO much about it since I work a full time job. I pretty much use my evenings, weekends, and sometimes my lunch breaks to work on the blog. Q: Where do you look for inspiration? A: Pinterest is SO inspiring for me! I’ve had the app for years but recently within the last year got re-acquainted with it and have started using it to my advantage. I am always so inspired by the aesthetic photos, fashion, home decor, etc. I could seriously spend hours on that app. Q: What blogger has been most inspirational to you? A: Oh my gosh this is such a tough question! I think I look up to different bloggers in different ways. For instance, @Dressupbuttercup inspires me to share more real-life, to talk on stories, and to do good with my platform. Bloggers like @nataliekennedyblog and @daniaustin inspire me to not take life too seriously and to just have fun with my blog. Bloggers like @somewherelately, @cellajaneblog, and @ashleyrobertson inspire me to stay true to the fashion I love- they all have INCREDIBLE style. Q: What have you gained from creating this community? A: SO MUCH. I have gained friendships, so much more confidence in myself, a sense of community and belonging, and a way for me to truly help others. Q: How much time do you spend blogging each week? A: I spend a fair amount of time on my blog each week. I wish I could spend more time on it but working a full time job and a blog at the same time is not always the easiest thing to do. I spend at least a couple hours each day on the blog and typically a full day on the weekends. Time spent is hard to gauge though because sometimes I pop on stories for a quick talk during my lunch break as well. Q: Who takes the majority of your photos? A: I have the SWEETEST husband that takes every single one of my photos. Zach is one of those uber supportive people that is always in my corner and cheering me on with everything I set my mind to. Though I occasionally get the sigh or the eye roll (I don’t even blame him haha), he’s always down to shoot a few pics. We actually have a really good system going though because we take pics every Saturday (a few outfits to get me through the week) and then we make a date out of it and grab brunch/ a drink/ etc. It’s a hassle but usually turns out pretty fun in the long run. Q: Camera or iPhone pics? A: Lately my DSLR camera has been my go-to. If I am in a super crowded place and want to fly slightly under the radar I’ll use my iPhone for photos, but I really love the quality of the camera photos better! I am not opposed to either though- just need to work on getting my iPhone pics up to par because i have seen some AMAZING blog photos taken on iPhone’s and I want that ability haha! Q: What is your favorite social media platform and why? A: Instagram by far! Though I have my annoyances with the platform (gotta love that algorithim…), I think overall it’s an amazing app. I love that it combines features from all popular apps (stories that disappear after 24 hrs like snapchat, image posting/ “friends” like facebook, etc.). Instagram truly amazes me because there’s SO MUCH creativity that goes on and it’s so inspiring. Q: Do you have any advice for people looking to start a blog or growing content creators? My biggest piece of advice is to dive in head-first and just do it. It’s not going to be easy and you are going to have to work really hard at it but what do you have to lose? I recommend staying consistent, making an effort to connect with other bloggers/ those that interact with your content, and to produce quality content. When I first began blogging I made many mistakes, but the biggest mistakes were: 1. Posting JUST to post even though the content quality was less than (to say the least). 2. Hopping on bandwagons just because I saw other bloggers doing it- wasn’t staying true to my brand and 3. Going through periods where I wasn’t consistent. Consistency is absolutely key to being a successful blogger and I still struggle with this today! Q: Where do you see yourself in the blogging community in 5 years? A: 5 years from now I hope to run a successful blog that allows me to inspire more people, connect personally and professionally with more people, and I hope to hit some bigger financial goals all while doing what I love- blogging! I could also see myself taking my blog to a whole other level depending upon where I am in life in 5 years! |
Now let’s get to know Lauryn on a more personal level! Q: Where are you from? A: I am from the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. My family moved around when I was younger but I always knew I would come back to the DFW area and a couple years ago Zach and I packed our bags and headed back to the metroplex. We both love the area and hope to be here for a very long time! Q: What is your proudest achievement? Personal or blogging! A: I would say on a larger scale my proudest achievement was earning my undergraduate degree in Nutrition from Baylor University and then my MBA from the University of Dallas. On a smaller scale, my proudest achievement was hitting some larger collaborations this year for the first time! I hope to continue to work with amazing brands in 2021. Q: Where is your favorite place to shop and why? A: My favorite place to shop is probably ASOS because they have such a wide variety of clothing choices and the prices are reasonable! I also like it because their clothing is usually more unique and not something that you would see on every other girl walking down the road! I also really love H&M, Mango, Free People, Nordstrom, and Target. Q: Who was your first style icon? A: My first style icon was probably Lauren Conrad from The Hills. I watched The Hills religiously growing up and always really loved her sense of style. It’s been pretty cool watching her style evolve so much over the past 10 years or so! Q: How would you describe your personal style? A: I would describe it as neutral, casual, and comfortable. I love to dress up every now and then but a simple black tee, jeans, and sneakers are my absolute go-to.- Q: What is your dream vacation and why? A: My very favorite place to vacation is Turks and Caicos- never in my life have I seen more perfect, clear water! If you have never been I could not recommend it enough. As for places I would love to visit, I’d love to go to Greece, Ireland, and Iceland because I have never been and they look like such beautiful places to vacation. Q: Favorite food? A: Omg this is so tough because I’m such a foodie LOL. I guess if I were forced to eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be pralines and cream ice cream. I am such a sucker for ice cream. Q: Favorite TV Show or Movie? A: I have so many faves! I don’t think I can pick so here are a few of my favorites; TV shows: Gilmore Girls, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Good Girls, Dead to Me, New Girl, Southern Charm, Real Housewives, Below Deck, & basically anything on Food Network & HGTV (lol so much for narrowing it down) Movies: The Holiday, Step Brothers, Legally Blonde, Clueless, Elf Q: Favorite genre of music? A: I like many genres but my favorite would have to be Pop- love all the top hits! Q: Stay in or go out? A: Staying in is definitely my thing but I’m also a big fan of a night out every now and then! Q: What is something people might not know about you that they do not see shared on social media? A: My little brother and I are actually 8 years apart (he’s a high school senior) and we are like best friends which one probably wouldn’t know by looking at my insta. I am super close with my family and don’t share them as often as I should! Q: As you know, red is my power color and I love to hear others! What is your power color and why? A: I’ve never really thought about it but I think my power color is black! I love a good monochromatic black look- I think its so chic and classic! |
