A living room is truly the heart of the home, where you gather with friend and family to sit back and relax, and obviously watch all Real Housewives franchises religiously. Let’s be honest, my roommate and I solely spend our time in this room watching anything and everything Bravo related, which adds up to be a lotttt of time so you have got to love the room you are in.

When my roommate and I moved into our apartment a year ago we had to meet in the middle on what our color palette and vibe would be for our living room. Probably the same issue many couples face as well because what boy really wants pink all over the house? As you saw from my Bedroom Details post, I love warmer color palettes and more of a vintage rustic vibe. As you can tell, the living room is not that. We fused my style and my roommates style of Modern clean color palettes and met in the middle mixing in dark blues and dark brown woods for me, and clean lines and white for her! The gold and marble accents we both love and was a no brainer adding in, keeping the room on trend and girly. I’m sure you are thinking this is nothing like she described her decor style to be she must not love the room, which is the complete opposite! It is all about finding those elements each person loves to be able to create a cohesive look that you both will love! If the person you are designing a room with really doesn’t know what they are looking for, try showing them different looks and color palettes on Pintrest to nail down what they are wanting before you start and have to start all over. It’s important to have a clear game plan.
I always say when decorating a room with another person that it is important to first nail down the major pieces of the room. For us we first focused on our couch and bookcase/tv stand. Since the living room is small in an apartment, its important for both parties to love the pieces and create the framework of the room itself from there. The accent decor pieces are much more fun to search for since they express your personality, but you also don’t feel the pressure of having to find the items quickly, like a couch since you have to have somewhere to sit and watch all your Bravo shows! I definitely suggest doing the at least first initial round of shopping together to really understand each others preferences at your favorite home good stores. Don’t forget, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither does your living room. I find it the most helpful to create a list of what you are needing/looking for and if you are striking out in stores, move your search to online. An upside is Target and Homegoods assortments change so quickly that you can find a lot of accent pieces if you check back regularly! For wall art, I love society 6 and of course Rifle Paper. If you do not want to splurge, Pintrest always has some great links to free art prints, or you can kick it old school and check out Tumblr posts and enlarge any images you might like.

One of my favorite things is our bookcase, as it allows us to reflect our personality and adds fun pops of color to the room in a unique way. Just have fun with it! The hunt is always the best part of furnishing a new room, I cannot wait to add some more new additions when we move into our new apartment!
