Effortless Work Wear

October 17, 2018

Effortless work place style is a must when a early wake up call is involved. I am the worst when anything requires an early rise so easy outfits during the work week are essential. I am notoriously a late night owl which hinders me a lot on work week mornings (coffee is a must). Anyone with me?! It is my goal in life to find these effortless styles that are throw and go out the door, while remaining polished and ready for a day of meetings.

Dress | Bracelets | Necklace | Earrings | Purse | Shoes

By far one of the best finds I have found is this black shift dress from Nordstrom. First its comfortable, honestly the list should really end here. Nothing is worse than feeling uncomfortable at a desk all day. Second, it is business appropriate and can transition to any season. I always tend to choose a neutral palette for work wear for this reason. When you are young and just out of college this is a good way to help you build your basics and won’t leave you having to purchase a brand new work wardrobe in the fall because all of your work clothes are bright from the summer. I mean who wants to spend all their hard earned money on just work clothes? Invest in pieces that you know you will get wear out of no matter the time of year or occasion. Save money on those fun pops of color each season, my favorite place to save at is Old Navy. Their Pixie pants are the only work pants that I will buy!

I tend to keep my accessories very simple at work. In doing so, I feel elevated and more sophisticated. Sometimes loud accessories can pull attention away from your candor during a meeting which is not ideal! This really depends on where you work and the occasion of the day, sometimes a fun cheery earring is needed! This year I have been in love with slide on mules/loafers (I feel like the description of the shoe could go either way). It’s funny that I now own three pair, black, brown and rounding out the neutrals, snakeskin (Yes snakeskin is a neutral, sue me). I used to always view these as granny shoes, but my skin on my heel has always been so sensitive that its hard for me to find work flats that don’t rub blisters. I didn’t want to wear heels everyday, and my workplace does not require them on the daily so why kill your feet? These slip on mules have been the perfect in between for me, especially in summer fall transition when it might be a little to toasty for boots. These snakeskin Steve Madden mules were by far my favorite and most worn purchase from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale (they are currently on sale for under $50!). Adding in a print on your shoe is a fun way to show personality to a basic black dress.

It is essential to remember the 3 C’s. Comfortability, Cost and Chic. You will not perform your best if you do not feel comfortable in your own skin, so find pieces that are comfortable no matter your days work, and that make you feel like you can take on the world. Really plan out items to splurge on that will be staples in your wardrobe for years and what pieces can you save on. Lastly a chic approach to your work wear. You want to be respected in whatever field you are in by keeping a chic palette at work that shows you are prepared and intellectual.

Now go out there and show them who’s boss 😉
