It’s my favorite time of the year, Valentines Day! And what better way to celebrate then with your girlfriends!? We all know by now one of the main reasons I love the holiday is the red and pink that surrounds the day, but it’s not just that, it’s also the sweets, the love and the flowers that come with the day. No matter if I have been single or in a relationship I don’t look at Valentines Day as just a day with your significant other. Maybe thats just because I am a huge holiday lover, who knows. But I look at it as a day to be girly and have fun with your friends!
To celebrate I wanted to host a little brunch with some friends. This is the first time my apartment doesn’t have a big island but rather a smaller bar area. I thought this was the perfect time to get creative and help you too if you are looking to host in a smaller space!
I kept with light bites we could snack on while we enjoyed a glass of rose! You could also swap out rose for a fun mimosa bar using pink juices and fruit. I knew I wanted to do a fun desert tray, kind of a play on a dessert charcuterie board. Super easy to make! Just pick your favorite candies and cookies mixing in different colors and spread them across the tray. I loved this little heart dish I found in the Target dollar spot. It helped break the tray up and add some dimension.
Next I moved onto a yogurt parfait. I loved serving these in a champagne flute to make it more fun. I got these for literally a buck each at Walmart which is such an affordable option if you don’t own any already! Another cute tray I found at Target was added with extra granola if needed and the fruit nearby if someone wanted to add some more.
And finally the heart shaped waffles! I got this waffle maker at Target last year. Its the Dash brand that comes out each season with fun new shapes. I added some bowls of fruit to add to the waffles or snack on the side. If you want to get real fun, cut your strawberries in heart shapes!
When fitting this all on the island I had to play with the shapes but found it really helped to utilize these placemats as a runner of sorts to add more texture and make the presentation more pulled together. First thing I would suggest is pulling out the bar stools if you have them so the area is not over crowded. I added this banner to the counter to also make the area feel more appealing and not a small island.
All and all I think I mastered the smaller bar area this go round and it was so fun to play with different ways to present the food. Do you have a small area to entertain in? If so I would love to see how you tackle the lack of space!
